About The Author-
I have always liked dogs and hunting. Now that I’m older, I don’t go as much as I used to. I only have one dog now, who is also getting older. She is my buddy and friend. I still take her with me in my truck, which she loves to go.
I am not a dog expert, but I have been a minister for over 37 years. If you have any questions or need spiritual guidance please feel free to contact me at the address below. If you enjoy my articles, please let me know. I do have some Christian literature available for those who request it.

In life, there are times when it is necessary for us to take risks. Even the lowly turtle must stick his neck out from underneath his shell some of the time. The bible says, “Come boldly to the throne of grace, in the time of need”. Would god want his children, when they are called to come to supper, to come groveling on their hands and knees begging for a few crumbs from his table? Or would he rather have them come and sit right up to the table and eat their fill? Some doctrines of humility are not as right and holy as they sound. They actually hinder gods desire for us. Stand up and be counted for the lord!

To be effective as a hunter, one must become familiar with his rifle. I went hunting one time with rifle I had borrowed from a friend. It was a 308 with a clip that held the shells. I was unfamiliar with the rifle, and as I walked out into the woods I slipped the clip into the rifle. Later when I spotted some deer ahead of me, I pulled up my rifle to shoot and the clip fell out of the rifle unto the ground. By the time I got the clip back into the rifle the deer were gone. When I told the friend I borrowed the gun from what had happened he smiled and told me “You have to slam the clip into the rifle until you hear it clicks into place”. Because I was unfamiliar with the rifle I was not successful in my hunt. It is the same with becoming familiar with gods word. One must know what it is, and how it was made to work for gods people, otherwise we will not be successful in our battle with the powers of darkness and evil.

A wood cutter went to a revival service that was being held in his town. Afterwards he told the towns people that he had be saved. The wood cutter had a reputation of cheating people with the wood that he was selling. One of the towns people said he was going to check it out and see if it was true that the wood cutter had been saved. He went to the wood cutters place where he sold the wood, and he measured the length of the wood ready to be sold and it was all to the right length. When the man got back to town he told all the towns people what he had seen and that he must have been saved. How can we say we are saved, if there is no change in our lives? The true sign of salvation is that the wood cutter doesn’t cheat on the length of the wood he sells and the drunkard doesn’t drink any more, and the thief doesn’t steal anymore , and the wife beater doesn’t beat his wife anymore. If there is no change, then there is no salvation either!

An old man live alone except for his faithful old dog. The man died one day and when they found him laying on the floor, his faithful old dog was standing guard over him not leaving his side. How many human friends would be that faithful of a friend? I have a little female white dog at home. She is my friend and companion. She doesn't ask for much, only to be loved and accepted in my home and family. That's not asking to much, is it? To treat our dogs and animals like they should be treated?

The bible says, "Be swift to hear, and slow to speak." Some of the best sermons i have ever heard have been with out words. Actions sometimes speak louder than words. Guarding our mouths in what we say, is very important. Even a fish wouldn't get into trouble if he learned to keep his mouth shut.

A man went to town and bought a new car. When he returned home he remember that he had forgotten to ask the salesman how much horse power it had. So he sent a note to the salesman asking him how much horsepower the car had. The sales man wrote a note back to him and simply said.. "Sufficient". The lord said in the bible, " My grace is sufficient for you". That's all gods people need to know, right?

A carpenter who had worked for a home builder for many year was about to retire, and the home builder asked the carpenter to build one last home for him before he retired. The carpenter felt like after all the years he had worked for the home builder he was not appreciated. So he decided to scrimp on the materials for the new home and keep a some of the materials money for himself. When the new home was completed, with all the inferior materials covered up behind the walls. The carpenters boss came to the new house and handed the carpenter the keys to the house. This new house was a gift from him to the man for all his hard work over the many years. Does it pay to not do our best in our service to god? We would only be short changing our selvesr in our inheritance in the lord.

For ten years, the people of St. Cloud, Fl. got so little water, that they had a hard time rinsing off in the shower. The city water department had checked for leaks , and they enlarger a few pipes, and even considered and additional water line. When someone noticed that ten years earlier when they installed the water system, that they forgot to turn on two main water valves. The city discovered the mistake when they checked the water pressure and saw that it was low. The valves were quickly turned on , and the city had 10 times the water pressure that they had before. Do you have enough of the presence of god in your life to meet your daily needs? Perhaps the problem lies deeply concealed in some valves you haven't turned on, or opened up to the lord. Like prayer and bible reading. These channels, can bring you into the presence of the lord, and bless your life! Wouldn't you like to increase the showers of blessing for god in your life? Perhaps even up to ten times what you now have experienced?

God sometimes works in strange and mysterious ways! My lawn mower broke down, and my two acres of lawn was getting long and out of hand. I prayed and asked god to help me get a lawn mower because I didn't have the money at the time to buy one. As I was coming home from work , later that day. I looked and I saw my son in law, mowing my grass with a hand push mower. he was huffing and puffing and sweating, but the grass was getting mowed. I thanked god for my grass getting mowed, even if it was a strange lawn mower.. doing the job. Until i got another lawn mower.

As I woke up the other morning, A little bird was sitting in a tree, just outside my bedroom window. It was a singing a beautiful song. It was just doing what god had created it to do. It was singing its song of creations. Each of us has our own song of creation to sing before god and we'll be ok as long as we can keep on singing our song in the lord! Don't ever quit singing the song god created you to sing ... in him. Singing it for him, and to him.

There is an old fable that say once the devil held a sale and on it, he offered all the tool of his trade. There were tools like hatred, malice, envy, sickness and many more. but over to the side on another table lay a tool called discouragement. It was old and very worn. Yet it was priced far above all the other tools. When asked why this tool was so valuable to him , the devil replied, "This is the easiest tool to use, for no one knows it belongs to me. with discouragement I can open a hearts door that is bolted tight against my other tools". Discouragement makes people give up, and give in to the devil, the devil wants people to get discouraged, saying " you can't do that" , or " you might as well stop trying" this is how he wins the battle in many lives. Philippians 4:13 says, " I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me". Let this positive attitude of faith, guard your heart, because the devil will never give up, and go else where with his bag of tools.

There once was a coachman named john, who was a happy Christian, always doing good deeds for others. He was praising good much of the time for everything. The rich woman he worked for told him one day that she was tired of him praising god all the time. One night she dreamed she went to heaven and was showed various mansions there. Coming to a very beautiful mansion she was amazed to hear that it belonged to her coachman john. She said, "If this is johns mansion ,what place will I have". Coming to a small hut, she saw her name on it. Very much ashamed she asked an angel why? and he replied, " We can only build with the materials that is sent to us". From that time on, she too began to praise the lord, and do good deeds. to many people today, are busy with this life and forget about eternity. Matthew 6:20 says, " but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven"...

Trying to get gods people to accept anything new or different in their lives, is like trying to get a bulldog to give up his favorite old bone. If you try to make him give up that old bone, he will fight you for it. Gods way, is to show people something better, which is like waving a big juicy steak in the bull dogs face. He will quickly turn loose of that old bone for that big juicy steak. God always offers his people something much better, than what they ever had before. So, out with the old, and in with the new, right?

My step dad told me a story of how he got the worst scare of his life. As a young boy, living in the back woods of Kentucky, He decided to walk into town and attend a dance they were having there. He stayed until it was very late, and he had to walk home in the dark. The country where he lived was quite wild and as he walked he heard a mountain lion let out a scream in the woods. He began to walk faster and faster, he felt like the cat was stalking him over in the woods. As he got almost home, suddenly in the darkness an animal jumped up on him. He said he almost fainted until he realized that it was the family dog who had come to meet him. Some times our human senses can deceive us, and our imaginations will run wild.

When ever my boys would reach the age of about 12 years old, i would take them deer hunting with me. When my son mike got to be about that age, I bought him a single shot 12 gauge shot gun and some slug shells. It was in the days when you had to have a party tag, in order to shoot a doe. We didn't have a party tag that year, so i told mike to be careful and not shoot anything without horns. We sat down by a tree on a hillside just above where the deer would have to cross over between two separate woods. The deer crossed but they didn't see us, at least not right away until they got real close to us. I raised my riffle to my shoulder and before i could shoot I heard mikes 12 gauge shot gun fire off a shot. As i looked i saw a deer fold up and fall to the ground. The deer i saw fall to the ground didn't have any horns that i could see. My son started yelling "I got him, I got him" you could have heard him a mile away. I said "Be quite", I think you shot a doe and we don't have a tag and we don't' want to get into trouble. I said a word of prayer under my breath concerning our situations. Then we went to where the deer had dropped. When we examined the deer, we discovered the deer was a young spike buck. The horns were about 4 inches long. I was so happy that the deer turned out to be a buck. I said thank you lord, for the way things turned out for us that day.

I was once hunting with our hunting party in a woods with some open fields around it. I stood on the edge of the woods near the field, when i saw a deer running through the brush in the woods. I fired off a quick shot at it, and then lost sight of it. I heard another shot being fired at exactly the same time I had fired my shot. A man in our hunting party had seen the same deer as I had, and had fired at it too. When we walked into the woods to find the deer we found it laying face down. with it's legs spread out from it's body. I saw that i had hit it in the back of the head, and I saw also that the other man had hit it in the side. It feel and died immediately. It was the other mans 1st deer, so being a Christian I let the other man have the deer. It made me feel good to see him so excited with his 1st deer. I have always tired to prefer other peoples feelings over my own, because that the way I want to be treated in return.

One year our whole family went deer hunting. When the season was over, I had fourteen deer hanging up in my garage. All the family had brought their deer to my house to hang them up together. There were also two very large white hogs hanging up in the garage, we butchered them to mix with the venison for grinding the beat into hamburger. The sight of all those deer hanging in my garage has left me with this memory, that I will never forget. This is the most deer our family had ever taken during a deer season. I remember how happy and excited the whole family was doing their deer together, and sharing in their adventure of it. We had gone up north to a friends cabin, and we had a large kettle of chili cooking on the wood stove. All the wives went hunting that year together with the men. What a happy time it was for all of us! Our lives don't have to be negative and unhappy, god wants his people to be happy and share together with each other in our lives!
